Caravan & Motorhome Insurance

Caravan Theft is on the increase. Police forces and insurers estimate that over 3500 touring caravans were stolen last year.

It is not a legal requirement to have insurance but it does make sense to protect your caravan against theft, accidental damage or storm.

A few things to think about when insuring you caravan:

New for old cover – This ensures that if your caravan is stolen or damaged beyond repair your caravan will be replaced with a new caravan providing you have been the sole owner since new. Most insurers offer new for old cover for caravans up to 5 years old.

For caravans over 5 years old market value applies whereby at the time of any theft or write off the insurer will pay whatever the caravan is worth at that time.

You must get the value of your caravan correct. Also don’t forget to add such items as awnings, gas bottles and security devices.

Storm Damage – Not all policies cover you for your awnings. It is important to make sure that this is covered.

Security – Preventing theft not only keeps your no-claims bonus but substantial discounts are on offer.
